With years of experience, James knows what it takes to make a champion but says it takes a special horse to go to the top. In the late 1970s, James won AQHA's World Western Pleasure class thee years in a row; something no trainer since has accomplished. Besides World Champions, James has won multiple congress classes and is very competitive in the Quarter Horse Circuit in Missouri and the midwest.
